Junior Fight Night 30/03/12

Wow! What a great night. Well done to everyone who fought. There were some fantastic techniques and some great control. We had a line-up of 16 fights with only one competitor having to fight twice. The bouts consisted of two 2 minute rounds with a one minute break.

It is a massive thing to walk out in front of so many people and to try and better your opponent. It takes a lot of courage and commitment, and for that, we thank and commend all competitors! A special thank you goes out to Matthew Launchbury who stepped up and agreed to fight twice due to having an odd number of fighters.

Josh Gordon                      (Winner)              vs                            Matthew Launchbury    (Runner up)

A great opening contest with some fantastic techniques on show. Josh just had the edge but Matthew fought brilliantly.

Munji Eltaib                                                        vs                            Aaron Wong                      Draw

Two of the smallest competitors battled it out and neither the judges nor the ref could separate them. Immense courage shown by them both.

Sarah Eltaib                         (Runner up)       vs                            Michaela Handy                (Winner)

‘Punch like a girl’ not these two, great skill and strength shown by both.

Torin Woodhall                 (Winner)              vs                            Jonathan Yip                      (Runner up)

Despite injuring his foot Jonathan kept going but Torin was just a little too good.

Jayden Clarke Owen       (Winner)              vs                            Joseph Perrins                  (Runner up)

Fast and furious this one, a great match that either could have won. Awesome stamina and determination shown by both.

Archie Giblin                      (Runner up)       vs                            Brandon Ross                    (Winner)

Archie displayed lots of skill but Brandon just had the edge. It was a close match though and both could easily have taken the win.

Jessica Vernon                                                  vs                            Krisztian Veselousky       Draw

Another great match with both competitors showing skill and determination, just too close to choose a winner.

Matthew Launchbury    (Runner up)       vs                            Max Patchett                     (Winner)

Matthew showed great courage in his first ever competition and  Max used great skill and control to make this a brilliant match.

Nina Unsworth                 (Winner)              vs                            Nadia Kullar                        (Runner up)

Nina just had the edge on skill which took her through to the win. Nadia was trying everything right up until the bell and did brilliantly.

Koel *******                                                   vs                            Donny Wong                      Draw

Another battle to rival anything shown by the bigger kids, great heart and determination shown by both – too close to pick a winner.

Brogan Grant                     (Winner)              vs                            Mulhim Eltaib                    (Runner up)

This was always going to be a high intensity, fast and furious bout and it didn’t disappoint. There was no let up from bell to bell from either Brogan or Mulhim - a real crowd pleaser.

Korben Warrington         (Winner               vs                            Sassy Bueno                       (Runner up)

In the end Korben just proved to be a little too strong but right up until the end Sassy was holding her own and was close to securing a draw.

Munzir Eltaib                      (Runner up)       vs                            Brandon Warrington       (Winner)

Brandon’s extra boxing training showed through and he was just a little too strong for Munzir, a great skilful bout with both showing some great techniques.

Natalie Unsworth            (Winner)              vs                            Zayna Kotapali                   (Runner up)

Natalie just came out on top in this one, Zayna used all the skills she knew but just couldn’t get through Natalie’s defence.

Ricardo Kullar                     (Runner up)       vs                            Courtney Enright              (Winner)

Courtney’s kicking was the deciding factor in this one, Ricardo used all his skill to avoid them but it was just too accurate.

Heather Felton                                                 vs                            Paige Sullivan                     Draw

These two Black Belts put on a great match to close the night, it had all the skill you would expect and deserved all the applause it received.

We are hoping to have regular junior fight nights with around 4 each year. The next one will be held in June. They are a useful tool to improve skills and confidence and to give the children something else to work towards.
